The FP7 Health projects

Summary of the FP7 Health projects written by Mrs Martine Peers

European Office Research Support Unit

Dear colleagues,

Please see below an update about the first 2 Health calls, together with a list of themes expected to be included in the 3rd Health call expected to be published in July with a deadline in October 2008.  This was circulated by the Health NCP (http://www.fp7uk.co.uk/ http://www.fp7uk.co.uk/ http://www.fp7uk.co.uk/ ), Tel 0870600 6080

First call: FP7-HEALTH-2007-A.

Are budget reductions a thing of the past? Not quite. With respect to the budget figures the NCP has access to for first call proposals, the majority of those funded will receive the EC contribution asked for. In a limited number of cases the EC contribution was actually increased during negotiation. In those where the budget was reduced, in 9/10 cases, the reduction was by no more than 4%.

Second call: FP7-Health-2007-B.

Independent Observers Report.

This is available on CORDIS.  The report covers the role of the Independent Observers in the evaluation process, selection and briefing of experts, feedback on the evaluation process itself and recommendations for the EC to consider for future calls. Download the full report from the Health home page on CORDIS.

Third call - due to open July 2008.

In February, the EC circulated their research priorities for the third call to the Programme Committee (PC). Following a period of consultation, the result was the first draft of the workprogramme which was made available to the PC this month. Not all activities in the workprogramme will open in the third call.

Activities closed for the third call.

1)    Suitability, Safety and Efficacy of Medicines.

2)    Human Development and Ageing

3)    Cancer

Suitability, Safety and Efficacy, with the exception of Alternative Testing Strategies, will be addressed through the workprogramme of the Innovative Medicines Initiative, not through the Health workprogramme. It is intended that the Human Development activity and Cancer activity be addressed in the fourth call, 2009.
